In the recent media release from The Pharmacy Guild of Australia, it was reported that the Queensland Branch is encouraging job seekers in Brisbane and Logan to join community pharmacy.
Eligible participants can become qualified pharmacy assistants through the Queensland Government’s Skilling Queenslanders for Work initiative. This initiative offers 8 programs that provide training for Queenslanders to improve their skills and increase their employment opportunities.
Furthermore, successful graduates of this program will receive the following:
SIR20116 Certificate II in Community Pharmacy
The opportunity to work in Queensland’s network, around 1,200 community pharmacies
During this time of the pandemic, the pharmacy workforce is essential. Thus, becoming a team member of a community pharmacy plays a big role in improving the lives of each member of the community, not just in Queensland, but all over the country.
According to Chris Owen, The Pharmacy Guild of Australia Queensland Branch President, this initiative is a modest investment of time. The Queensland Government can help in preparing potential participants to become successful pharmacy assistants by equipping them with free courses such as Fundamentals of Community Pharmacy.
Past graduates from this initiative reported increased job satisfaction, especially in supporting the healthcare needs of the community. For interested participants, the courses for Brisbane and Logan will start on August 22, 2022.
This initiative is a face-to-face course that will take up to 7 weeks. An additional 10 days will be used for practical experience. For more information about Skilling Queenslanders for Work, click here.
Urinary Tract Infection Pharmacy Pilot Through Community Pharmacy
The Queensland Government recently announced the Urinary Tract Infection Pharmacy Pilot and The Pharmacy Guild of Australia, Queensland Branch President Chris Owen, has welcomed it as a permanent pharmacy service.
According to Mr. Owen, community pharmacies have an integral role in delivering quality services to patients. To date, around 820 Queensland community pharmacies have already joined the program, focusing on women’s healthcare.
Women who do not have access to a general practitioner or GP clinic or those who cannot seek an appointment due to the sudden onset of symptoms can consider going to their local pharmacy to access safe, effective, and convenient healthcare services.
One patient who received this pilot service found the program convenient and simple. This program is a pleasing service to women, especially for those in rural and regional areas of Queensland.
Based on the clinical review of the pilot program, the service is significant because of its accessibility. It was also found that pharmacists from this pilot have delivered safe and appropriate care. They have appropriate skills to treat patients with minor UTIs in community pharmacies.
